How the pages are built

The ballot comes from published sources, cited on every race with the date it was read: election-results pages, Ballotpedia News, state election offices and local newsrooms. Each race lists the nominees of the two major parties, plus an independent who is a principal candidate; smaller-party and write-in candidates are left out, and a race whose lineup the sources could not settle is left off. Party is printed as the ballot prints it. Statements come from the daily record, the same entries that fill each person’s own page. A candidate nobody has quoted in a story the brief covered shows an empty record, and it fills in on the morning that changes.
