“It’s an unenforceable 48-hour deadline delivered late on a Friday,”Kristin Connelly, Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder, quoted by MSNBC · arguing the DOJ's demand has no legal force and conflicts with the state and federal law she must follow
“The legal consequences for either facilitating or ignoring federal crimes are significant”DOJ letter to Contra Costa County and other California clerks, quoted by MSNBC · threatening prosecution of election officials who keep sending or counting ballots from people on the DOJ list
